Bugatti Veyron 16.4. Probably the most radical car in the world.

The legendary French-Italian manufacturer unveiled the definitive Veyron 16.4 at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003, and began to produce it later that year. Only 300 units were produced, with a price of 1.3 million Euros each.

It accelerates from 0 to 300 km/h in less than 14 seconds and its top speed is just over 400 km/h. Until 2007, it was the fastest and most impressive (production) road vehicle in the world. It is a four-wheel drive with a seven-speed automated manual gearbox, with gearshift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is a spectacular two-seater, displaying the most advanced technology, a carbon fibre chassis, aluminium panels and Kevlar.

The Veyron 16.4 – named after Pierre Veyron, one of Bugatti’s most famous prize-winning drivers in the middle of the last century– includes a magnificent 16-cylinder central rear engine, 64 valves and 4 exhaust turbo chargers, capable of delivering the stratospheric figure of 1,001 hp at 6,000 rpm.

As yet it continues to be the second fastest production car in history, only surpassed by the Ultimate Aero – from Shelby Super Cars, with an official top speed of 427 km/h. There was a time when it also held the title of the most expensive car in the world, according to a list published in its day by the magazine, Forbes, although it now stands behind models like the Ferrari FXX and the Maybach Exelero.

Only 300 units

But many experts and various specialised media still hold it as the most spectacular car in the world. When the Veyron 16.4 was unveiled, Bugatti announced that only 300 units would be produced, in addition to the 150 units of its convertible version, the Veyron Grand Sport. By the end of 2008, the first 200 units had already been delivered and the company is currently producing approx. 70 units a year, which means that the limit established by Bugatti will be reached in 2010.

Whilst the technicians put the finishing touches to the final design of the future 16 C Galibier – the prototype displayed for the first time in September 2009 to replace the Veyron–, Bugatti makes the most of its only model on sale by launching different special editions, each with a production of between 1 and 15 units.

For instance, in March 2008, it launched the Veyron Fbg par Hermès, produced in association with the prestigious French firm, Hermès, which fitted-out the interior and gave a unique elegance to the exterior of the vehicle. And at end of 2009, it announced plans to manufacture 3 new editions exclusively for the Middle East market, including the Veyron Nocturne, with a price of 1.65 million Euros and only 5 units.
