In the heart of London, right opposite Hyde Park, the Royal College of Art is among the art and design colleges with more international prestige at postgraduate level: one strict admission requirement is a bachelor’s degree. The syllabus is extremely demanding, but the school certainly lives up to expectations: according to a recent survey, 93% of the graduates manage to get an excellent job soon after finishing the course.
The most difficult part is getting in, as to enter the Yale School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut (USA), potential students have to pass an extremely tough entry exam. Courses in painting, sculpture, photography and design leading to a Master of Fine Arts degree.
Founded in 1636, Harvard University has become synonymous with the universal aspirations of North American higher education. In addition to 44 Nobel laureates among its alumni, it has taught the US presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama, and the government leaders, Vicente Fox, Álvaro Uribe and Felipe Calderón. Its library, which houses more than 15 million volumes, is the fourth largest in the world.
With 27 Nobel laureates among the staff, this university is the birthplace of such famous technical and scientific companies as Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems, Yahoo!, Google and Sun Microsystems.
It is a programme which, with some exceptions, such as ESADE and IESE in Spain, is only available in the USA. The rigorous and selective EMBA of Wharton School in Pennsylvania lasts two years. It can also be done in ESADE (Spain): a wholly North American programme, adapted every year and the only European among the top 20 in the ranking compiled by The Wall Street Journal. The Spanish school is part of the Executive MBA Council.
In the Wharton Business School it is aimed at top executives responsible for price-fixing strategies, whilst in the London Business School (UK) it is conceived as an exclusive programme for accounting professionals who make a pause in their professional careers.
