Make-up: Gestures and final products

Eight Basic steps and a handful of deluxe products whose efficiency is backed by its commercial success and the praise from users. Together they make up a set of the ideal make-up to face the summer with an impeccable image.

"Make-up kits need constant renovation, because of fashion and because products have an expiration date. It is time to check ours, to throw away whatever is obsolete and to plan the best investment.

This proposal covers three fronts: bringing together the best in the market, covering the necessary gestures to look radiant and adapting to trends. Trends dictate: a natural and shiny look for the day (like Sienna Miller in the Hugo Boss spot) and, for the night, the difficult choice is between smoked eyes (like Natalia Vodianova in the Guerlain’s new ""Terracotta"") or strong lips (those of Vanessa Paradis for Chanel).

This is how one gets the perfect make-up:

Step 1. Prepare the skin

Before starting, it is necessary to remove impurities, particles and make-up leftovers. Among the many lathery formulas that clean and moisturise the skin we can highlight Gentle Foaming Cleanser, a classic by Clarins (19.35 €), it is very soft and it has versions for all types of skin.

Step 2. Moisturise

Essential, before applying foundation, one needs to use a face and neck moisture and to let it work for ten minutes. In our article “Almost perfect creams” you can find the best in the world.

Step 3. applying the foundation colour

Make-up foundations unify the colour of our facial skin (they must be of the same tone than the skin), they conceal defects and smooth down the skin. Apply on face and neck, with small touches, in a uniform manner. The Skin Caviar de La Prairie (150 €) foundation is the most luxurious, exquisite and magical: the transformation is radical.

Step 4. Concealing defects

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat (31 €) covers the bags under the eyes; apply with small brush strokes and diffuse with small touches to make it blend with the foundation. For redness, Shiseido’s Stick Control Color (35 €) has the perfect proportion of green to counteract the red without clearly seeing it.

Step 5. Blending and illuminating

loose or compact, cosmetic powder must never be used without foundation. Its objective is to set the colour, to remove undesirable shines and to illuminate. Between the beautiful powder compacts of Estée Lauder and Shiseido or the loose powder of Clinique and Kanebo, we opt for a must: Guerlain's famous Meteorite box (50 €), with double effect light-velvet.

Step 6. Redesign features

It is time to enhance the cheeks with blusher (the new Fresh Bloom Allover Colour by Clinique is wonderful (36 €)) and to break in the eyebrows (they carry an important part of our expression), a transparent mascara such as Lancôme Cils Booster XL (20 €).

Step 7. Enhance the eyes

Fashion dictates natural tones for the day and dark edging (smoked effect) for the night. Tools: Khôl pencil by Lancôme (18,90 €), eyelashes mascara Phenomen’Eyes by Givenchy (27,50 €), whose applicator breaks away with anything previously known, and the “custom-made” palette of eye shadows by Bobbi Brown (the box of 6 costs 10 € and the colours –paid separately- can be chosen according to your taste).

Step 8. Drawing the lips

For the day, or the night if the eyes are “smoked”, unnoticeable colours. This can be achieved with Guerlain’s KissKiss gloss (26 €) and the Dior Addict light lipsticks (27,95 €). For audacious and dark lips, the Rouge Coco line by Chanel (28 €,
