Millionaire managers. Those who manage the country’s large fortunes.
"They manage the money of Spain’s biggest fortunes. They are, as they are known in the sector, ""pata negra"" professionals behind 150 multifamily offices and half a dozen private banks."
"They are the masters of money. They manage the funds of some of Spain’s biggest fortunes, and they basically do so through multifamily offices and private banking.
In total, we are talking about in the region of 150 multifamily offices and half a dozen private banks which, in Spain, control the money of the elite. And at the front of these institutions are the ""pata negra"" managers.
In fact, on this list of elite professionals we find companies like N+1 (presided over by Santiago Eguidazu, former member of Morgan Stanley); GBS Finanzas (managed by Pedro Gómez de Baeza, former Director of Warburg Bank, and Juan Antonio Samaranch, coincidently, the son of the former President of the International Olympic Committee); Family Office Solutions (captained by John Siska and Borja Durán, former General Manager of Guggenheim Investment Advisors in Madrid) and Achievers Family Office (whose area of strategy is managed by Javier de Muguiro).
A wide wealth-management offer
However, they are not alone. We must also draw attention to companies like Sinergia Advisors (owned by José Enrique Brañas, ex Morgan Stanley); Riva y García, a well-known company in the sector, and Skipper Capital, managed by Miguel Ángel Martín, who has carved out his reputation in capital markets during his days in ABN Amro and Crédit Suisse, where he was Vice President of the latter.
There are other names, including Marcos Belil and Enrique Gebler, founders of the multifamily office Gestalia 21, now part of GBS Finanzas. Belil has worked for top names (UBS, Santander Banca Privada, Chase Manhattan Bank) and so has Enrique Gebler (Julius Baer, Merril Lynch and UBS).
Names that stand out among the rest
A manager who has stood out in recent months is Luis Regalado. Professionally raised alongside Leopoldo Fernández Pujals (founder of Telepizza), and after passing through Banco Madrid (where he was head of private banking) he is now responsible for the Spanish branch of the wealth-management bank, EFG Bank Luxembourg.
On the more, to put it somehow, institutional side of the operational set-up we find Manuel Sánchez del Valle, responsible for Popular Banca Privada, a man who has worked his way up in the bank and is rapidly expanding this business area.
These managers of the elite are joined by a number of well-known multifamily offices like Ponte Gadea (Amancio Ortega), Torreal (Juan Abelló), Omega (Alicia Klopowitz), Pactio Gestión (Del Pino), etc."
