The most beautiful submarine landscapes of the planet
From Australia to the Caribbean, from southeast Asia to the Red Sea, the marine abysses are a gigantic box full of surprises for those in love with diving. When the outside is overwhelming, nothing like diving.
There are all kinds of opinion, so many that one could get lost “diving” in all types of classifications that appear in the best specialised magazines of the planet, in the websites of enthusiasts and in the publications made by the best experts, such as the sector’s “bible” Dive Atlas of the World.
However, given that 70% of the earth’s surface is underwater and that –luckily, and despite climate change- natural paradises comfortable cannot be counted with one hand, drafting a ‘Top Ten’ of worldwide diving spots is still an incredibly unfair task.
The favourites for enthusiasts
One of the lists of best diving places, considered to be more trustworthy, is that of Scuba Travel (established by the online votes of readers), its flaw is that it indicates, among the top 10, 4 places that are in the Red Sea, in Sharm el Sheik and surrounding areas. Too many, if we consider the wide variety of marine parks and water flora and fauna species that we can appreciate in the four corners of the world.
In fact, the Dive Atlas itself, with 300 pages of illustrated references to the best dives, received in its latest edition, complaints from one of the experts interviewed, to whom they attributed a clear choice- the Galapagos island- however, he stated that he mentioned 3 different destinations, which he considered to be at the same level.
The shipwreck remains
However, if we move with skill around the 7 Wonders of the Underwater World and The best 50 places where to dive before dying, looking at all classes of rankings, we can see some recurrent trends.
A large number of destinations “not to be missed” are found in Australia, southeast Asia, the Caribbean and the Red Sea: as well as the natural wealth of parks, the experts often indicate as elements of huge interest the presence at the bottom of the sea of shipwrecks (some old, others not so much) which have contributed to some changes in the ecosystem, sometimes extremely striking.
Most classifications do not include destinations that are close to us, such as the Mediterranean. This does not mean that paradise, for European citizens, cannot be around the corner. From Zenobia (another shipwreck) in Cyprus, to the Gozo Blue Hole in Malta, from Sardinia to Greece, diving can be a real pleasure.
