Excellent gyms: what differentiates them from the rest

De-stressing and sculpting the body in the best possible ambience. The location, quality of the facilities, customer care and extra services are key to determine which are the best gyms in Spain.

Since Adolph Spiess, an enthusiast of sports at schools, established in the mid-nineteenth century the practice of sports indoors, the idea has been adopted by a whole avalanche of enthusiasts. Although in Spain only 20% of the population regularly go to the gym, there is growing concern for being fit.

So mucho so, that sport centres are proliferating, they innovate and evolve to become cult temples for the body and personal well-being. Times change. What used to be an inhospitable place full of machines and devices is now a wellness area, cared for and amicable.

The closer to the client the better

Gyms have evolved at gigantic steps. Market studies when setting up a business of this type show that success depends on the originality, specialisation and competitiveness. For instance, being located in a good area is an added value, such as Barcelona’s mansion where the Iradier female Gym is located, surrounded by a beautiful garden of 3,000 square meters.

Design does not lag behind when assessing a gym. The O2 Wellness Centre chain stands out for its minimalism and its Zen decoration. Boasting the best facilities with all the possible technological advances is another maxim. The Metropolitan chain gives its customers an electronic key that memorises the daily results and makes a balance of programmed objectives.

Much more than doing sports

Having a team of personal trainers, with a spa to relax after all the effort, providing towels, bathrobes, and on-request juices to customers, as well as seeing famous people in the club, are other factors to stand out in the market.

Of course, price is also important: The biggest amount of attention given, the most exclusive the centre will be. People from Barcelona, those who go to the gym the most in Spain, are very demanding when choosing a centre. The Six Senses Spa, the most expensive in Spain, the Arsenal or the Iradier, all of them in Barcelona, are different because they have wonderful views, holistic techniques or because they are exclusive and only accessible to very few.

The important benefits obtained from doing sport, (release of endorphins, mood improvement, lowering blood pressure….) mean that many companies include it in their employees’ daily work routine. Reebok or Zagros already have their ad hoc programs for executive employees, with spinning or body bump classes.
