The year of the belt, the star complement
This is the season's true star. A multitude of proposals from the major labels is available, in all imaginable materials, colours and styles. It is worn on the waist, well visible and on top of any garment. Its star role is so indisputable and there are such eye-catching pieces that they become the life and soul of dresses, blouses and tops in block colours. They are worn prominently over cardigans and trench coats and with trousers and jackets to create a contrast.
The white handbag, huge and in the best leather
Michael Kors, Furla, Gucci, Chloé, Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo… and many more are all agreed: their collections include a white-leather tote bag. Conspicuous, informal and very practical, this type of bag combines numerous virtues: it holds everything and is a good ally on both working days and weekends. In white, it also goes with just about everything.
The scarf: here to stay
It refuses to be banished and is reinvented each season in new collections: this year, with large flowers or wide stripes. Still up-and-coming are models finished off in large beads and metal hoops. Square scarves are worn with one corner falling forwards; long ones plumped up around the neck and with the ends floating in the wind
4.- Technofashion: iCovers for any iGadget
There is an infallible method for transforming a technological bestseller into a highly personal luxury object: give it a premium luxury leather cover. The major fashion firms know this and have been successfully dabbling in this field. There are now covers with an illustrious name, in eye-catching colours and even some made from crocodile skin for laptops, iPad, iPhone and Blackberry.
5.- Necklaces, yes to the most baroque versions
They are shorter and more complicated, mixing metal, fabric, beads and large stones. Three bijou collections that this season have transformed their necklaces into objects of desire: Roberto Cavalli and his fringed cascades; Oscar de la Renta, whose chokers with applications are insuperable; and Lanvin, with striking and original pieces.
6.- Sunglasses, a return to the classics
Besides protecting our eyes from sunlight and being indispensable for driving on luminous days, sunglasses are one of those complements that reveal our personality or mood. Three models predominate this year: the popular aviator, which will still be around for a while, large 'resort'-type paste glasses and a third, more urban pair for everyday comings and goings.
7.- Seasonal watches, large and in-your-face
Your mobile phone gives you a highly precise reading of the time, but a wristwatch is increasingly a fashion essential. In the warm season, watches are more visible and are highly expressive when properly combined with the colours and style of the rest of your outfit. The trend: masculine pieces (that is, large), colourful and highly original.
8.- The enduring straw hat
It protects from direct sunlight and is very elegant on vacation. This year, the straw hat returns to the natural colours of the earth and is bedecked in fabric ribbons or leather strips. Two requisite models: the Fedora and the wide-brimmed picture hat, rustic or vintage.
9.- Bangles, bracelets and more bracelets
Go on. They are all wearable: articulated or rigid, in leather or with charms, so long as they are highly original and are worn in large quantities. The great success of the season are bracelets worn high up – so much so that they almost cover the entire forearm – and made from embossed metal, with inlayed stones, or linking up countless beaded strings.
10.- The indulgence: a new handbag for your collection
Each season, a special investment in a complement is a must to feed your treasure trove of icons: adding at least one long-distance piece, one of those that retain their value, that bring joy to our day and raise our mood every time we open our wardrobe. This is a great year for clutch bags or for handbags in red and coral hues.
